PHONICS SCHEME

Our Phonics scheme is Read Write Inc.  This is a national scheme that is recognised as good practice in the Ofsted document ‘Reading by Six’.  The children are regularly assessed and work in small groups at their own ability.  In Read Write Inc, children learn different sounds and a range of new exciting vocabulary.  They also learn to read a range or phonics books, using the sounds they have already learnt.  Children learn to write sentences and compose longer pieces.

READING SCHEME

The main reading scheme used by the school is Floppy’s Phonics by Oxford University press.  These books are all phonically decodable so children can access them using the sounds they have already learnt.  The scheme is supplemented by a range of other books, such as other phonics books from Oxford University Press and some ‘real books’ to give children the opportunity to meet books from a variety of genres.

This is a Ruth Miskin Trained School 2014 - 2015

We are a “Get Reading. Keep reading. Change Everything.” school.

We use the highly successful Read Write Inc. Phonics programme to teach our children to read, write and spell. Our children do well in the Phonic Screening Check and by Year 2, the majority are fluent readers with the best chance of success in the KS1 tests.

Ruth Miskin Training recognise us for teaching the Read Write Inc. programmes with fidelity and passion – we know what it takes to make literacy pleasurable and rewarding for our children.

This badge says that in 2014 - 2015 we:

  • Raise standards in reading and writing for our children
  • Are all expertly by Ruth Miskin Training – including our headteacher (Judith Ward)
  • Gain the latest programme updates through regular visits from our Ruth Miskin trainer
  • Release our literacy coordinators to ensure our high standards are maintained.
