Race Leys  Infant School Council

The school council are a group of 16 children who meet regularly to discuss issues of importance to the children in our school. At the beginning of each autumn term new councillors are elected. All children are invited to put themselves up for nomination. Their class peers then elect a boy and a girl from each class who represent them for the whole academic year.  They can be easily identified around school because they have a special ‘school councillor’ enamel badge to wear.

Role of our councillors

  • To attend regular meetings.
  • To offer their opinions and to make decisions on behalf of their peers.
  • To feed back to their class relevant meeting discussions.
  • To bring new agenda items from their classes to the attention of the council.
  • To liaise with Mrs Ward and the senior management team.
  • To assist with the setting up and running of school events.
  • To build links with the local community. Letters written by last year’s councillors to local businesses resulted in donations for our allotment.
  • The year two councillors have the added responsibility of assisting in recording the meeting minutes.

In previous years our school councillors helped to run stalls at our Christmas fayre and acted as guides during our schools centenary celebration. They were also instrumental in burying a time capsule full of letters from our children during the construction of the new Tesco store in Bedworth. As you enter the store and stand in front of the travelator, you are standing directly on top of our capsule
